NEW MILES FOR SMILES CHALLENGE (April to June 2008)
Wednesday, November 07, 2007
Having successfully completed the Foundation's first challenge
in 2006 of becoming the first people in history to run the length
of the Great Wall of China non-stop, Grier and Malherbe couldn't
resist the challenge of running an estimated 4 000 km non-stop from
Oranjemund in Namibia via Cape Town in South Africa to Ponto d'Oro
in Mozambique. (read more about this on our social responsibility
page)
In the process the pair will once more be raising funds for Miles
for Smiles, which will again be used to assist non-profit
international organization Operation Smile's South African missions
to provide reconstructive surgery to children born with cleft lips
and palates.
Despite the massive physical toll exerted on their bodies in the
Great Wall Challenge, Grier and Malherbe have recovered well and
have been declared medically fit to take on the Coastal Challenge.
Will they go the distance and achieve another world first in
2008? Time will tell … With just 5 months to go before
they head off, the two are currently well into an intensive
training regime and diet preparation in Cape Town under the
guidance of the Sports Science Institute.
Our website www.milesforsmiles.co.za will be up and running soon
with all the information regarding this exciting venture.
