Wednesday, November 07, 2007
Cipla's corporate social responsibility program, Miles for
Smiles, won the award as Overall Winner, Most Innovative Project in
the 2007 Absa Healthcare Initiative Awards which were held at the
recent annual Pan African Health Conference. The awards recognise
companies and organisations whose healthcare initiatives exemplify
excellence, innovation and sustainability across several
categories.
Last year, Cipla\'s Miles for Smiles sponsored two South African
runners David Grier and Braam Malherbe as they became the first
people in recorded history to run the entire length of the Great
Wall of China from start to finish in one go, as well as the first
to personally measure the length of the wall. The two were
simultaneously raising money for Operation Smile, a non profit
organisation providing free reconstructive surgery to children and
young adults suffering from facial deformities such as cleft lips
and palates resulting in 55 children having reconstructive surgery
in Empangeni last year. (Read more about this on our social
