CIPLA MEDPRO CONTRIBUTES TO HIV CLINIC
Thursday, April 12, 2007
Thanks to a donation from Cipla Medpro, the HIV Clinic at
Coronation Women and Children's Hospital in Coronationville,
Johannesburg, has refurbished the newly renovated Paediatric HIV
Clinic. The clinic recently underwent a much needed face-lift
thanks to several donors including UNICEF and the Wits Paediatric
HIV Clinic's Research Unit.
Brightening up the run-down interior with a fresh lick of paint and
adding much needed furnishings has made the clinic a more pleasant
place for patients and staff alike.
According to Dr Ashraf Coovadia, the head of the HIV Clinic, the
newly upgraded facility enables the staff to see more paediatric
patients per week, and allows them to deliver a higher quality of
service.
"The confidence you (Cipla Medpro) have shown in our work only
motivates us further in providing this service," said an elated Dr
Coovadia.
The new clinic called Empilweni ('Place of Life') has started over
1000 children on antiretrovirals since the commencement of the
government's ARV rollout programme in April 2004.
Dr Coovadia and his team are embarking on a fundraising campaign to
raise funds for their next project, a much needed dedicated
paediatric pharmacy adjacent to Empilweni.
