Cipla Medpro

  • Cipla Medpro was founded 18 years ago by CEO Jerome Smith.
  • Today Cipla Medpro is the third largest generic medicines company in South Africa by volume.
  • Cipla Medpro is South Africa's third largest pharmaceutical company by value.
  • The company is currently growing faster than the top 40 pharmaceutical companies in SA.
  • Cipla Medpro is listed on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange (JSE) through holding company Cipla Medpro South Africa Limited
  • In December 2005 Cipla Medpro was acquired by local pharmaceutical group Enaleni Ltd for R1,5 billion (one of the largest pharmaceutical transactions ever undertaken in South Africa). Just 18 months later, Jerome Smith was appointed group CEO. In November 2008, the group name was changed to Cipla Medpro South Africa Limited.
  • The company was the first in South Africa to launch a three in one ARV combination of a first line regimine (Triomune) in 2006.
