Hein Wagner

Some rise to the challenge and lead lives that inspire all those with whom they have contact.

It has been said that people born blind grow and mature with an intellect absolutely void of the pre-conceptions or judgements of those with sight.

Their minds become formidable think tanks… platforms from which they develop razor sharp insights into life's everyday problems and challenges.

Some rise to the challenge and lead lives that inspire all those with whom they have contact.

Hein Wagner is such a man.

  • At the age of 22 he completes the Cape-to-Rio yacht race
  • His blind cricket team wins the 1st Blind Cricket World Cup for South Africa, in India
  • He skydives from a height of 10,000 feet and bungee-jumps from one of the highest bridges in the world
  • Hein completes both the Hong Kong and New York City Marathons
  • He takes part in the Korea Ironman and cycles 180km on a tandem
  • He completes his APM (Advanced Professional Management) through the open University of London
  • He performs his autobiographical show, Bat Magic, at all the major art festivals in South Africa
  • In 2009 he brakes the World Blind Land Speed Record for the second time, setting a new record at 322.5km/h.
  • During March 2011 Hein becomes the first blind person to complete the Absa Cape Epic, a gruelling mountain bike race of 707 km over 8 days.
  • Hein plans to pilot a Boeing 747 from London to South Africa

In 2008 Hein founded The VisionTrust - a public benefit trust fund that strives to make the world as we know it a more accessible place for persons living with disabilities.)

Hein Wagner does not allow his blindness to stand in the way of his dreams. He achieves on all levels and people often refer to him as "the blind man with exceptional vision".
